An articulator truck driver lost his life while two other persons in the vehicle sustained severe injuries when an unspecified number of highway robbers attacked them on the Kumasi-Accra road.
The gun-wielding robbers, numbering about six laid ambush in a forest area between Nnadieso and Brekuso which is a border town between Ashanti and Eastern Region on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The robbers shot sporadically at the oncoming articulator truck and other vehicles. The incident happened around at 1:32 am Wednesday.
Robbers succeeded in robbing passengers on six other articulated trucks, a 'VIP bus' and a four-wheel-drive vehicle at gun point in an operation which lasted a few minutes before the arrival of the Police Patrol team from Kumasi.
The patrol team had met two of the robbery victims with severe injuries on the 'VIP bus' on their way to the hospital.
Police say they are currently receiving medical attention at the Nkawkaw and Juaso Government hospitals.
Police say the robbers fled the scene before their arrival although they had swiftly responded to distress calls from victims of the robbery.
Meanwhile police say they have mounted search for the robbers.
