A Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Party Party, Samuel Awuku says the true state of Ghana is hopelessness. He claims that Ghanaian were in a state of "despair; they are dispirited, disenchanted, disillusioned” by the uninspiring leadership provided by the Mahama-led government. Sammy Awuku's comments were in reaction to President John Mahama’s maiden State of the Nation delivered in Parliament Thursday. Opponents of the president have described the address as poor, verbose, uninspiring and lacking substance. The NPP has hinted it will present what it calls "The True State of The Nation" which would highlight the challenges faced by Ghanaians since the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed power. Members of the NDC have dismissed the NPP's criticisms, insisting the President’s address was the most inspiring State of the Nation Address in Ghana's recent history. However, speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Sammy Awuku said President Mahama demonstrated he had lost touch with reality and had no idea what the true state of the nation was. According to him, Ghana was in a state of coma because of the president's lax and aloofness to the plight of struggling ordinary people. The NPP Deputy Communications Director said the president failed to offer realistic solutions to the erratic power supply, water rationing and the shortage of petroleum products that the nation was saddled with. He added that the State of the Nations Address was mere rhetoric and offered less hope to Ghanaians. He called for a national prayer to resuscitate the nation. Mr. Awuku is optimistic the NPP's challenge of Mr. Mahama's election at the Supreme Court will win the day to enable the opposition party rescue the nation from its current path. He assured Ghanaians of better times ahead under a formidable and results-oriented Akufo-Addo-led presidency in the nearest future.
