The mother of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that she drank alcohol and ran until she ‘dropped’ in an attempt to abort him while she was pregnant.
Dolores Aveiro revealed the story in a biography called Mother Courage, which was released in Portugal today.
In the book, Mrs Aveiro admitted that she tried to abort Ronaldo – who is the youngest of four children – by drinking warm beer and running ’till she dropped’ following the refusal of doctors to carry out the procedure.
She said: ‘I wanted to abort but the doctor didn’t support my decision.’
Mrs Aveiro – whose husband Dinis died from alcohol-related liver damage in 2005 – revealed that Ronaldo knew the story about her difficult pregnancy but had made jokes about the incident.
She said: ‘He told me when he found out, “Look mum, you wanted to abort and now I’m the one who’s pulling the purse-strings in the house.”‘

Mrs Aveiro also addressed Ronaldo’s son, Cristiano Jr, in the biography and said that she had picked up the child – whose mother’s identity remains a secret – from a Florida clinic four years ago while her son played in the World Cup in South Africa.
She said Ronaldo had told her he was ‘going to have a child’ and wanted his mother to educate and love the boy.
