An aspirant to the presidency of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Hon. Kojo Adu Asare, believes he has what it takes to revitalize the body.
The race for the top post at the Ghana Olympic Committee has been keen with accusations and counter accusations from interested parties.
Hon. Adu Asare told Asempa Sports that, there is the need to maximize Ghana’s fortunes in sports and the only way to do this is to ensure that the Ghana Olympic Committee applies modern day approaches in administering its operations
Asked what he meant by modern day approaches, he said it is how the body packages the products that the GOC has (the various sporting disciplines) and selling them to the corporate world so that most of the disciplines will become financially viable.
He also added that, liaising with the media in order to give them the necessary education on how to publish and talk about some of the disciplines that have been named “lesser known sports” is also key.
Hon. Adu Asare also quizzed why the country cannot develop sports and education coterminously. “We can do this by identifying some particular sports that some second cycle schools are good in and then build facilities for those schools to harness the talents in the schools” he stated.
He also debunked the notion that he was running for the top post because of the IOC grants that is given to the body.
According to him, the grant given to the body from the IOC is pittance and therefore believes the GOC can generate far more than that for the smooth implementation of the plans he has for the body.
The Member of Parliament for Adenta pleaded with the delegates to vote for him so that together, they will energize the body to ensure that Ghana moves from a single sports nation to a multi-sports nation.
