There was confusion when a guard of honour mounted by the Volta Regional Police Command in honour of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Paul Tawiah Quaye, missed their steps and the police band played discordant music to the disappointment of the IGP.The guard of honour was made up of an officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and 60 men.Senior police officers and service commanders who were invited to witness the guard of honour bowed their heads down in shame since the training was expected to make them perfect.Addressing them, the IGP retorted: "I am depressed by what I have witnessed, but I will not allow myself to be depressed".He expressed his disappointment at the confusion of the officer and men who mounted the parade.Mr. Quaye indicated that confused and ineffective policing would not be able to deliver the task and confidence reposed in them by the police administration. He cautioned that without a resolute mind and acting at the peril of the moment precision which should be the order of the day would elude them.Mr Quaye pointed out that "the parade is a big indictment on the police administration, the Police Service and the Regional Command will have to answer."He told the Regional Police Command "you invited me to the Volta Region to come and witness a parade of confused and ineffective police officers and men".The IGP then charged the Regional Police Command to build their capacities and competencies to improve their service delivery which required consistent training and retraining."Naturally, knowledge decays with the passage of time if it is not sustained through usage and continuous training," adding that "it is on record that many of our personnel have not received any revision or additional training apart from the initial basic training on recruitment," he lamented.Source: The Ghanaian Times
