The Executives of the National Governing Council and the Secretariat of the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners, Ghana (IHRMP), led by its President, Mr. Dan Acheampong, have paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Employment & Labour Affairs, Nii Armah Ashietey and his Chief Director, Mr. Modey.At the meeting, Mr. Dan Acheampong congratulated the Minister on his assumption to office as the new substantive Minister. The President went on to inform him of the significance of the HR Bill and its expected positive impact when passed.He indicated that it would help to regulate the practice of Human Resource which will ensure that only professionally trained and certified individuals are eligible to practice as Human Resource Managers/Officers both in the public and private sectors. Mr. Acheampong ended by pledging IHRMP’s support in other related areas when called upon.In response, Honourable Ashietey also emphasized the great importance of Human Resource Management to Ghana’s development. He stressed the need to have knowledgeable people in place in order to have quality output.With respect to the countless number of strikes of recent times, he was convinced that with knowledgeable, well-trained practitioners in place to direct and advice on issues of contention, the story would have been different.The Minister stated that it is heart-warming to see IHRMP championing the cause of advancing HR Practice in this way.The Vice President of the Institute, Mr. Wilson, in his contribution, suggested a post-mortem of all strikes be conducted to aid learning and to help avoid such occurrences in the future. The Minister agreed, stating that it is a prudent thing to do.
Mr. Acheampong thanked the Minister for the audience and his pledge of support to the Institute.
