Owner and Coach of Nania FC, Abedi Ayew Pele has told JOY Sports the club’s decision to pull out of this weekend’s GHALCA Glo 8 tournament was due to inadequate preparation to effectively compete.
The FA Cup champions became the third club to pull out of the GHALCA Glo 8 competition following the withdrawals of traditional giants Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Abedi Ayew Pele told JOY Sports, “Our chances will be poor and that is why we don’t want to take a risk because we’ve reached a level in the country’s football where everybody knows how we can perform.”
He added that, “We finished the Division One League last. We played in the MTN FA Cup finals which we won. After the final, I allowed my players to also go on holiday and they have all not regrouped. And, we have to see to it that we have at least two friendly matches to prepare for the first game and since we have not been able to do that, we are excusing ourselves.”
The Division One club has been replaced by top tier side Ebusua Dwarfs in the tourney which begins tomorrow.
Head Coach of Dwarfs, Professor Joseph Mintah has declared his team as clear favourites for the ultimate. He told JOY Sports, “We are going to play competitively. We are ready. We are in the competition time in terms of the pre-season, so this is going to be a good exercise for us."
He added that,"We are going to showcase what we have been doing this pre-season. The other teams should be ready for us as well. We are going to pull a lot of strings together in terms of winning the championship.”
The Cape Coast based club will join league champion Berekum Chelsea, AshantiGold, Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Liberty Professionals, Heart of Lions and New Edubiase to participate in the novelty pre-season competition.
