Jose Mourinho has faced many challenges in his time as a manager. At Porto, he masterminded a Champions League victory with perhaps the worst squad in the past 15 years to do so.
At Chelsea, he kept Alex Ferguson at bay for two seasons before being undone by Roman Abramovich's transfer whims. When managing Inter Milan, he had to somehow be even more impressive than Roberto Mancini.
Even at Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world, it took all he had to knock Barcelona off their perch. But now, in an interview with the Teleraph, Mourinho has revealed what he's struggling with right now:
"I have a problem. I'm getting better at everything."
One thing that might surprise some of his rivals, thought, is that he claims that, "when I face the media, I am never a hypocrite."
Speaking at a promotion for Jaguar, Mourinho also decried players' obsession with money, saying, "Once players came to football expecting to be wealthy when they retired. Now they expect to be wealthy before they’ve played their first game!”
Rare Wenger agreement
In a blow to some of those interested in superficial statistical analysis, Mourinho demonstrated that they cannot be used out of context, and perhaps surprisingly, mentioned a rare topic of agreement between him and Arsene Wenger, his rival from a decade ago:
"But I think Wenger said something that is interesting; he is against the Ballon d’Or, and I think he’s right, because in this moment football is losing a little bit the concept of the team to focus more on the individual.
We are always looking at the individual performance, the individual stat, the player that runs more. Because you run 11km in a game and I run nine you did a better job than I did? Maybe not! Maybe my 9km were more important than your 11.”
