Come Friday December 3, the nation’s number one radio station, Joy 99.7 FM in collaboration with Highlife Festival Ghana is set to hold the biggest highlife music fiesta ever to be staged in the country. The event dubbed Joy FM Highlife Dance Party, is expected to bring the rich rhythms of highlife to revelers and organisers say it is the best way to put the icing on the cake of what has been a rewarding year for Joy FM’s discerning listeners; a true Christmas present. The event will be the one stop event for listeners to go out with their partners and dance to some good highlife music. Mark Okraku Mantey of Highlife Festival Ghana and a brain behind the event told Myjoyonline.com Thursday that with his rich background in highlife music coupled with a station like Joy FM celebrating 15 years of quality programming, Joy FM Highlife Dance Party is the perfect reward the station is giving to its numerous listeners. The event comes off at the Alisa Hotel Poolside and it will kick start at 6pm with a highlife jazz session. It will subsequently be shifted to a higher gear at 7pm when renowned highlife legends; Pat Thomas, Dr Paa Bobo, Ben Brako, George Jarrah, Papa Yankson, C.K. Mann with new artistes; Kofi Nti and K.K. Fosu all taking turns to perform with live bands to get enthusiasts dancing back their memorable fun-filled times. The uniqueness of this program, Mark said is the fact that they have managed to merge the youth and the big names in highlife music to perform on one stage. With a slogan: Why sit, when you can dance?, the event holds no dull moment as patrons will be treated to danceable nonstop good music. This is pure excitement on a silver platter after a hard day’s work mixed up with opportunities for new friendship and business relationships. Mark disclosed that this event is the prelude to a grand event, Highlife Festival taking place next year, March in Accra. Malian and internationally renowned music, Salif Keita is set to headline that event with local giants; Adomako Nyamekye, Rex Gyamfi, C.K. Mann, A. B. Crentsil, Nana Kwame Ampadu and Dada K.D. all performing. Mark echoed the need to patronise and support highlife, “I have always been a crusader of highlife music...originality sells, we can’t continue to copy people and kill ours.
