A JoyNews Impact Maker winner, Dr. Joel Duah Afi, has been promoted to Municipal Director of Health Services at the Tano South Municipal Health Directorate, marking a significant milestone in his mission to transform rural healthcare.
Dr. Afi's journey is one of passion and purpose. Recently completing his specialist training in Family Medicine at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, he brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and public health leadership to his new role.
Since assuming leadership in September 2024, Dr. Afi has overseen transformative initiatives, including maternal and child health programs, disease prevention strategies, and community outreach projects that have greatly improved health outcomes in the municipality.

In 2019, the U.S. Embassy in Ghana announced Dr. Joel Duah Afi, a 2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumnus from Ghana, as the winner of the 2024 Leadership Impact Award.
His dedication to underserved populations has been evident through groundbreaking projects like the Abusua Community Medical Center and his Mobile Medical Outreach Initiative with Hope For GH.
Under his leadership, Tano South successfully immunised over 16,000 children against polio, expanded community health education, and improved maternal healthcare delivery.
Notably, his programs have provided thousands with free consultations, screenings, and essential medical care.

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Afi stated, "Achieving this specialisation is not just a personal milestone but a commitment to the people I serve. My goal is to integrate my expertise in Family Medicine with public health leadership to bridge healthcare gaps and improve the well-being of communities."
As Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Afi is set to implement even more impactful healthcare advancements and policy reforms, positioning Tano South as a model for rural healthcare excellence in Ghana.
