The sitting judge in the controversial judgement debt saga paid to National Democratic Congress financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome is disappointed at the slow pace at which the prosecution is handling the case. Judge John Ajet-Naseem of the Financial Court Monday asked the prosecution to wake up to its mandate of prosecuting serious offences. The state has sued Mr. Woyome as well as a Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh and his wife, Gifty, for alleged roles in the payment of some GHS51 million as judgement debt to Woyome. They have all denied wrongdoing. The state on a number of occasions asked for adjournment to allow it conclude investigations into the matter. The defence, unhappy with the appeals for adjournment by the prosecution asked the court to strike out the charges against Woyome. They are disappointed their client has been charged with fraud and conspiracy and yet the prosecution has been unable to prove its case and to begin proceedings in court. They pray the court will declare no case against him. Sitting on Monday, the judge refused the defence’s application for no case but asked the prosecution to sit up. Joy News’ Cyrus deGraft-Johnson who was in court, said all three suspects attended the packed court. The case has been adjourned to April 30.
