Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region is appealing to staff members to help solicit for funds to enhance its operations.

Speaking to Nhyira FM's Ohemeng Tawiah, the Acting Chief Executive, Isaiah Offeh Gyimah, said the government's support and other internally generated funds were not enough to meet the hospital’s obligations.

“Government cannot provide everything so we should do more. There is a lot that we can do but we are not doing and it is because we don’t have money to buy equipment,” Mr. Gyimah said.

He said the appeal was also to make people feel responsible to support the hospital and "we must contribute to its development.”

The Chief Executive noted the facility had not been able to meet its financial obligation because of unsettled insurance claims by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

According to him, the "NHIA is unable to promptly reimburse us for the services that we have rendered to our clients." The claims, he indicated took about six to eight months and "we need the money.”

KATH is the biggest National Health Service provider in the country with over 80 per cent subscribers.
