Former Bantamweight Champion Joseph Agbeko is calling for government support ahead of his crucial Super Bantamweight bout with Guillermo Rigondeaux on December 7.
Kingkong Agbeko, describes the bout as the biggest and most important in his career and says government must invest in the preparation towards crucial bouts before it can rejoice in the victories of those boxers.
The Ghanaian boxer bemoaned how they are orphaned any time they lose their bouts but hailed only when they win.
“I think boxing has contributed a lot to Ghana sports and we deserve a lot of support from government.
“Boxers will fight and win and the whole nation will rejoice over it and when they lose everybody will insult them.
“I remember my last fight with Mares when I lost, I got to the airport and there was no one. No journalist. No politician. Nobody. That is what happens to you when you are from Ghana and you lose.
“Government must support our cause and contribute to our preparation. Then we can yield better results. If you can contribute to preparation why should we all share I the joy,” he lamented in an interview with Myjoyonline.com from his New York base where he is training for the bout.
Agbeko assured however that he will give Ghanaians a Christmas gift by winning the two WBA/WBO unifying titles against Rigondeaux.
