The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Samuel Sarpong, has expressed dismay at calls for his dismissal by some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He describes the agitation as an unfortunate development calculated to destroy his reputation as well as make the Mills administration unpopular.
Some NDC foot soldiers in the Kumasi metropolis are allegedly mobilizing to demonstrate against the MCE for non-performance and lack of concern for the welfare of party activists.
Spokesman for the MCE, Clement Kigeri, in an interview with Nhyira Fm’s Ohemeng Tawiah, however, dismissed the claims, saying since assuming office Mr. Sarpong has contributed immensely to the development of the party in the region.
He is on record to have single-handedly sponsored several constituency elections and played a key role in the organization of Regional executive elections held at Mampong.
Newly elected executives at the congress praised him for his financial contribution.
The KMA mayor is not only the brain and architect behind the establishment of NDC Youth Development Fund aim at supporting unemployed youth in the Ashanti region but also one of the financiers.
Mr. Kigeri says no development- oriented individual will demonstrate against the MCE.
