The Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is not seeing new patients anymore from Monday "till further notice."
Doctors at the acclaimed centre are holding a hushed 'strike' to protest the revocation of the appointment of the 'founder' of the heart centre, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, who confirmed he had been removed from office late last week.
His appointment was revoked because he had sought transfer from the Ministry of Health to the University of Ghana Medical School in the year 2000.
His colleagues have petitioned President J.E.A. Mills to reinstate him to the unit, however they tell Joy News no new patients are to be admitted until further notice.
They have placed a notice to that effect at the centre and are unwilling to speak to the issue publicly. They however confide in Joy News the 'strike' will hold till Frimpong Boateng is reinstated.
Among other reasons, the doctors want Professor Frimpong Boateng honoured for his invaluable service to the nation instead of being handed the treatment being meted to him presently.
They also want his replacement, if so desired by the government, to be handled honourably.
