Kotoko and Paa Kwasi Fabin have agreed to part ways, but only on condition that the coach pays off the club.
The former head coach stood by his decision to resign from his post at a meeting with the Executive Chairman, Dr Kwame Kyei, on Sunday.
Director of Communications, Lawyer Sarfo Duku, tells asantekotokosc.com Paa Kwasi Fabin was, as a result, reminded to comply with Section 12.3 of his contract with Kotoko.
The section states that: “If the Head Coach terminates this Agreement before the expiry of the term hereby granted or any extension thereof, he shall to the club the sum equivalent to the sums due him for the unexpired period of the contract.”
Paa Kwesi Fabin tendered in his resignation on Wednesday, and management responded by telling him to settle the condition enshrined in the contract he has with the club.
Dr. Kwame Kyei was not in Kumasi then, and a meeting to address the situation ended with the coach reiterating his earlier stance and Kotoko reminding him of theirs, as a result.
“Paa Kwasi Fabin has told the Executive Chairman that he cannot continue as head coach of Kotoko,” confirmed Lawyer Sarfo Duku.
“Management’s position is that we cannot stop him, but then he must comply with the contract, and we would use every legitimate means to make sure that he does that.”
Lawyer Duku reveals Assistant Coach, Akakpo Patron, has been made to hold the fort until a new head coach is appointed, insisting that the players have assured management of their full support.
Assistant Coach, Akakpo Patron is to take charge until a substantive coach is signed. We have met with the players who have assured us that they’re professionals and so are ready to work with any coach so deemed fit by the club.”
“Our supporters must stay calm and be assured that management is in full control of the situation. Training resumes tomorrow, and the Golden Clash 2nd leg match between Ashgold would come off on Sunday as scheduled.
