Members of Kwaebibirem District Assembly on Monday confirmed Mr George Agyemang Duah, a 43-year-old lawyer as Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive.
He polled 56 out of the 77 votes cast as 20 voted against him and a ballot was rejected.
Mr Duah called for support and co-operation of all assembly members, chiefs and other stakeholders in the district to accelerate socio-economic development of the district.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, said those who voted against Mr Duah had sent a clear message to him to work hard to unite the assembly and the people to push development of the district forward.
He said the district had great potential, blessed with resources for economic and social development and urged the people to unite to build a better district.
Mr Ampofo said what the district needed most was love, unity and happiness and everyone should work towards the creation of such atmosphere to accelerate development.
He emphasised that the nomination of a DCE was the prerogative of President John Evans Atta Mills and when that had been done, all who aspired for the position should accept it and support the appointee to develop the district.
Earlier, a government appointee, Mr Samuel Owusu was withdrawn and replaced with Mr Kwaku Ofori Abrokwah who took the oath of office together with six other appointees who could not take their oath of office at an earlier sitting of the assembly.
Before the voting, police in riot gear had to intervene on several occasions to prevent clashes between those who opposed Mr Duah and his supporters.
