Motorists plying the route linking Lapaz and Nyamekye both suburbs of Accra are lamenting over the deplorable nature of the road.
According to one of the drivers, they have been filling the potholes with sand for the past three years, a solution which hardly lasts due to the rains.
The road linking Gbemomo, a suburb of lapaz in Accra to the Darkuman road through to Nyamekye and other neighbouring communities, is un-tarred.
Vehicles moving to and from adjoining communities, leave thick fumes of dust in their trail, which hampers drivers’ visibility and comes with serious health concerns to pedestrians.
This is what one of the motorists said when he spoke to Joy News’ Abigail Adomako Antwi, “Our bodies ache after plying the road, if the road is fixed we would be happy because when it rains we cannot see the road and end up falling into a ditch”.
Though motorists abhor the nature of the road, for them it is the only convenient alternative route to Nyamekye and adjoining communities from Lapaz.
The bad condition of the road does not only affect motorists, residents also complain that because there are no drains on the road, other people in the community pour waste water on the road.
One of the residents said, “ people pour water on the road because there are no drains and the drivers splash the water on us and when we complain they insult us”
Residents also say, the lack of proper drainage system on the road result in constant flooding after a downpour.
Drivers plan to use a heap of sand they have bought to fix the road in the meantime but fear the road will revert to its bad nature in no time, hence, want city authorities to intervene.
