Mr. Jean Adediran, District Governor of Lions Club 403A in-charge of Overseas Affairs, on Monday made a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Health to brief officials on progress of work on some health projects being undertaken by the Club.
Mr. Adediran said Rotary Club had undertaken a lot of development projects, which had helped to meet the socio-economic needs of the people.
"Although the Club in Ghana has a lot of needs, they are doing all that they could to help the less privileged."
He said his visit was to assess the performance of the Clubs in the country and have a fair idea of the problems facing them in the discharge of their work.
He said Rotary Club had made the well-being of society as its main objective based on the belief of its founder that one would not progress much in life without helping the less privileged.
Mr. Adediran said the Club had constructed a five billion-cedi eye clinic at Tema, provided hearing aids and other accessories worth two billion cedis for the School for the Deaf at Cape Coast and was currently working on an eye clinic for Ridge Hospital in Accra.
Mr Abraham Dwumah Odoom, Deputy Minister of Health, said the development of the country's human resources was for the nation to achieve its objectives relating to the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy II.
He said government attached a lot of importance to the health needs of Ghanaians hence the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
"As of now the NHIS has a national coverage of 49 per cent with 37 per cent of the population accessing it."
He lauded the good works of the Rotary Clubs and urged them to continue to assist humanity through the provision of quality services.
