Waste Disposal companies have embarked on the distribution of waste bins in their respective localities.
Anyone found using an unauthorized waste bin within the Accra Metropolitan area would be arrested and prosecuted, the Assembly member for Memeete Electoral Area, Miss Jane Oku at Sabon Zongo said on Thursday.
She stated this during the organisation of sporting activities to create awareness among the youth and opinion leaders on the need to dispose off refuse properly.
She said conscious efforts were being made by the AMA to create public awareness on the effect of indiscriminate disposal of filth in Accra.
She said ZoomLion was the accredited service provider to evacuate filth within the Ablekuma Central area and appealed to the Zongo Community, the youth and the opinion leaders to cooperate with the Company to ensure environmental sanitation.
Miss Oku stressed the need for Ghanaians to change their attitude towards sanitation issues and commended civic groups within the area for their contribution towards peace in the community.
She gave the assurance that officials of ZoomLion were ready to explain issues concerning waste disposal in the community.
Mr Innocent Tarnoh, a Ghanaian Soccer International playing with F.C. Garanada in Spain, who sponsored the programme commended the Assemblywoman for her efforts in organizing the youth groups in the area to undertake the clean-up exercise and community mobilization work.
