Ghanaian technology has come of age and entrepreneurs in this area are being advised to export their products to ensure the nation’s IT potential is displayed on the global stage.

Chief Executive officer of Computer Warehousing Group, Austin Okere suggests merely satisfying the domestic market is mediocre and unambitious.

Mr. Okere says most of the leading tech brands in the world like Amazon have had to spread their tentacles to capture other emerging markets.

Austin Okere says the Ghanaian mentality of playing small must stop.

“Amazon started as an online company selling books. Today they’ve taken it way beyond books. Whatever you want, Amazon will deliver. So, it’s become a global business which is competing with shops in Ghana.”

Ghana has a host of promising IT firms but very few have taken their operations beyond Ghana.

Mr Okere, argues “Ghanaian companies interested in investing in IT should look at this value chain where the margins are better, skills more specialized and therefore the barriers are higher. It should get to the point where Ghana has her own version of Amazon.”
