Chiefs and people of Lolobi, Akpafu, Santrokofi and Likpe in the Hohoe Municipality have reiterated that they have never petitioned government to be part of the Oti region. 

According to them, they have been forcefully removed from the Volta region and placed in the Oti region without their consent.

They have, therefore, served yet another notice to the government that they cannot be part of the Oti region.

Speaking at a press conference at Lolobi, a spokesperson for the group, Kofi Godfred stated categorically that, the four traditional areas per their legislative instrument and subsequent creation of the Hohoe Municipality, are part of Hohoe and its constituency.

According to Kofi, the failure to repute or amend this law before the referendum and subsequent creation of the Oti region nullifies the outcome of that exercise and their inclusion in the Oti region.

He described the current situation as unfortunate saying it was occasioned by the report of Justice Brobey Commission which said put the four traditional areas in limbo and unable to exercise their constitutional rights as citizens of Ghana.

The situation is currently denying them from participating in national programmes such as the limited Voter's Registration Exercise, the Ghana Card registration, District Assembly Common Fund and the election of political parties executives for the regional, district and constituency levels, he claimed.

Godfred Kofi also said that a meeting held in Hohoe on November 8, 2017, all the paramount chiefs of the nine traditional areas inclusive of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe which constitute the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, resolved in the final statement to remain in the Hohoe Municipality.

He demanded to know why the November 27, 2017 petition by the new traditional area to the Justice Brobey Commission to join Oti region was not considered.

He wondered why the Commission on its January 20, 2018 hearing at Nsuta Buem, refused to give Togbega Gabusu, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional area and Pastor Steven Adai of Akpafu, the opportunity to be heard but looked on while they were attacked and heckled by the crowd.

He said they would advise themselves if the government does not heed to their petition.
