A Constituency Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, has stated that it was dangerous for the party to use long years of membership and service as a major criterion to select a flagbearer for the party in the 2008 elections.
Mr Yaw Adjei Anhwere, Atwima-Nwabiagya Constituency Organiser, who stated this, said in as much as long years of party service was a plus, the aspirant's achievements within and outside the party as well as his unifying posture must also be a core factor in deciding who should lead the party.
In a statement issued in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr Anhwere, cautioned the party members against building cults around some of the presidential aspirants.
Members, he said, should note that each of the aspirants is capable of emerging as the winner and that there was the need to assess their competencies to know their capabilities.
Mr Anhwere cautioned against factionalism, which was creeping into the party and said that should be avoided if the party wants to win massively in the 2008 elections.
He said the NPP as a party was bigger than any of the candidates and it was imperative that any action taken conformed to the norms and principles of the party so that its fortunes would continue to soar.
The Constituency Organiser called for a peaceful campaign devoid of insults, innuendoes, personal attacks and maligning.
