Imagine a machine that allows you to slot in a card with your medical prescription and produces the drugs you need in real time. That’s what the automated drug dispenser does. The machine has been introduced to hospital administrators and owners of medical facilities. The use of the machine is however limited to medical staff for now.Director for the sole distributors of the machine in Ghana,Nel Supplies Ltd, Dr Jimmy Heyman believes that this medical management system would go a long way to avoid human error in drug dispensation and also enable hospitals cut down on cost.
“It reduces wastes in the sense that it minimizes the phenomenon where drugs fall down you’re dispensing drugs. Also is a component that tracks the expiry date of drugs- that is if you want a certain quantity, you get exactly that. And at the end of the day, you can always check to see the quantity of drugs that have been dispensed and this minimizes pilfering" he explained.
