President John Mahama has inaugurated a five member committee to unravel the cause of a deadly fire explosion at a Goil filling station in Accra which left scores charred beyond recognition.
The committee was set up by the Interior minister Mark Woyongo, on the orders of the president.
It will be chaired by retired Justice of the Court of Appeal Justice Isaac Duose.
Other members of the committee are the Chief of Defense Staff or his representative, the Inspector-General of Police or his representative, the Chief Fire officer or his representative.
Hydrologist consultant Wise Amertekper has also been named in the committee in view of the fact that the fatalities from the fire outbreak was worsened by concurrent flood disaster that night.
The June 3 explosion at Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra, increased the death toll from the flood disaster considerably after stranded commuters sought shelter from the floods at a Goil fuel station.
Charred bodies in buses and in private vehicles littered the fuel stations in a rather heart-breaking disaster story.
The chronology of events leading to the fire has been different from one person to another.
The committee will put to bed a number of theories explaining the explosion.
While some narrated that a carelessly disposed off cigarette sparked the explosion, another believes lightning struck the Goil fuel station.
A less talked about possibility is that some of the trapped victims were on their mobile phones when it should have been put off while at the fuel station.
Interior minister Mark Woyongo, at the inauguration said the committee is expected to submit its report on 30th June 2015.
