President John Mahama is set to commission the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after the first phase of construction has been completed.
Formerly the Ridge Hospital, the facility has undergone significant make-over and now takes 629 beds.
The Ridge Hospital was 191-bed facility built in 1929 to exclusively provide healthcare for British nationals during the pre-colonial era.
But after pumping in $250million, the colonial relic is now an example of impressive infrastructure. It has over 20 departments and infrastructural additions.
The investment is in line with the NDC government's goal of constructing at least one modern regional hospital in each of the 10 regions.
The Greater Accra Regional Hospital was funded through a credit facility provided by the Export-Import Bank of United States for an amount of US$157,500,000.00 and HSBC Bank for an amount of US$92,500,000 respectively.
In an campaign advertisement, Nigerian actor and comedian 'Osufia' described the hospital as 'a 7-star hotel'
