President Mahama says all necessary plans are being put in place to enable the seat of government relocate from the Osu Castle to the Flagstaff House early next year.
President Mahama made the comments on Friday when he addressed staff of the Castle at their annual end of year party.
The presidential palace was built by the erstwhile Kufuor administration but was not completed before the new administration took over. It was christened the Jubilee House but was changed to its original name – The Flagstaff House.
The NDC government led by then late President J.E.A. Mills refused to move the seat of government to the new place with the explanation that the building had not been completed.
But after the demise of President Mills, President Mahama gave the indication that once the Flagstaff House is completed, he would move there.
Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur is currently operating from the Flagstaff House.
President Mahama said “I put up a committee to supervise that and they have presented me with their interim report of the defects that exist in the Flagstaff House. The Chief of Staff’s office is working to correct all those defects to make sure that everything is put in place for us to move the seat of government to the Flagstaff House.”
The president also says he is hopeful that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is currently occupying parts of the Flagstaff House will complete its building in order to move out of the presidential palace.
