Former Black Stars midfielder, Mallam Yahaya has said he has what it takes to make a return to the senior national team.
At 36, the midfielder, who plays for German fourth division side VfR Mannheim told GNA Sports that he still possess the strength and pace and can fight for a place in the current Black Stars’ set up.Currently on holidays in the country, Yahaya said he has not lost his qualities such as the dribbling skills and aerial dominance, and is prepared to give current midfielders Michael Essien, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Derek Boateng and Anthony Annan a good match for their positions.“I may not be active during the 90 minutes, but I can make an impression in 60 or 30 minutes. With my experience, I believe I can deliver when given the chance.”Backed by his consistent performances with VfR Mannheim, Yahaya said his level of experience places him above his juniors’ currently making waves with the Black Stars.Aside the Black Stars return, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has targeted a coaching role with a Bundesliga side in the not distant future.“I have done my UEFA License C and I’m pursing the UEFA License B at the moment. My dream is to coach in the Bundesliga (German elite division).“After 18 years in German football, I believe I have what it takes to coach a Bundesliga outfit upon the completion of my coaching course.”Mallam Yahaya featured for the Black Stars between 1996 and 2000, and was a member of the team that placed fourth at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. The midfielder also played for the Black Meteors at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA.He has played in Germany throughout his football career since after leaving Kumasi-based King Faisal in 1993 with stints at Borussia Dortmund, SV Waldhof Mannheim, Stuttgarter Kickers, VfR Mannheim FC Astoria Walldorf, ASV Durlach and Amicitia Viernheim.Source: GNA
