A 20-year- old worker met his untimely death Friday, when he was dragged into a mixing machine he was operating at Delta Agro Limited, a soap producing factory at Tema.
The police identified him as Daniel Afornope, a resident of Ashaiman.
Briefing the press on the incident, Superintendent Kwaku Buah, Community One Police Commander, said at 7a.m., Afornope who had just began the morning shift, was pouring raw materials for the production of soap into a Zigma Mixer from a sack.
He said the sack got stuck in the teeth of the mixer and Afornope, in an attempt to retrieve it, was dragged into the machine by the force of the machine.
Supt. Buah said a fellow worker raised the alarm, but before the machine was switched off Afornope's left arm was severed, in addition to serious injuries to his stomach and face.
He died a few minutes after the incident, and the body was conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue.
When the Ghanaian Times got to the factory premises, some of the workers were seen wailing while others had gathered to discuss the incident.
The Production Manager of Delta Agro Limited, Fahed Sabra told Adom News’ Francis Henaku that the accident was as a result of the victim’s negligent and refusal to obey safety instructions in handling the machine.
He said the company will establish contact with the deceased family to pay them the necessary compensation and insurance benefits.
