“I have never had sex with the victim, but I only touched her vagina with my hands,” these were the words of a 41-year-old Daniel Ayivi who has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old granddaughter.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Tesano Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service assisting police in their investigations.
Narrating the story to Daily Guide, a source at the Tesano DOVVSU said suspect Ayivi was the junior brother of the victim’s grandmother.
Ayivi lived with his family, victim and sister in their family house at Nii Boi Town near Achimota.
Information gathered by the police indicated that the suspect had been having sexual affair with the pupil for the past year.
Ayivi usually had sex with the victim on the floor of their bathroom when victim was having her bath, and at the back of their toilet.
The source said the victim’s statement to the police indicated that Ayivi had had sex with her for more than 10 times.
“Anytime he had sex with her, he warned the victim not to tell anybody, not even the grandmother,” it stated.
On July 14, 2012, Ayivi allegedly called the victim and forcibly had sex with her at the back of their toilet.
While the suspect was on top of the victim, one of her uncles spotted them and reported the matter to the police and Ayivi was arrested that fateful day.
In his caution statement, Ayivi, who claimed his last born was even older than the victim, denied the allegation.
The suspect then admitted that he only used his hands to touch the vagina of the victim but never had sexual intercourse with the victim.
Meanwhile, ASP Experanza Ayesu-Danso, Tesano Divisional DOVVSU officer, told Daily Guide when contacted that the suspect had since been arraigned.
The DOVVSU officer said an Accra circuit court remanded the suspect last Thursday into police custody to reappear on August 21, 2012 while the police continued with their investigations.
