Close to 2,500 people have signed an online petition launched last week to seek justice for a Ghanaian worker who was assaulted by her employee.
Evelyn Boakye is said to have had her face dipped into a pepper sauce by her Lebanese supervisor, Jihad Chaaban, who heads the Abelenkpe branch of Marwako Fast Food.
The petition, addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, wants the government to stem the tide of abuses suffered by Ghanaians in the hands of their employers.
The online petition is calling for an end to “inhumane treatment of Ghanaians by foreigners” and a shutdown of the fast food chain.
Mr Chaaban was arrested and granted police inquiry bail as investigations continue.
Convener of the Alliance for Civil Justice and Lead Petitioner, Courage Kwasi Nobi, is accusing the police of deliberately slowing investigations.
"Our country is in a dire need of serious national institutions that will act promptly on issues of these nature. It is very disappointing that it has taken the police over ten days after the incident has been reported to take action," Nobi laments.
Meanwhile, the Employment Minister has directed managers of Marwako Fast Food to produce a report over an alleged assault of a female worker within a week.
Ignatius Baffour Awuah told the media Tuesday the report of the company would assist the ministry's own investigation into the incident.

“It is important that the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations is also seen to be acting and very fast. It is absolutely unacceptable that these things, these things go on they seem not be aware; they seem not to have a clue about the conditions under which some people work In this country," Nobi adds.
He also expressed misgivings about the late intervention of the Labour Ministry.
