A 29-year-old mason, Nana Yaw Kumi was on Thursday fined GH¢200 by the District Magistrate Court at Awutu, for stealing assorted building materials valued at GH¢145.
In default, the accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, would go to jail for six months in hard labour.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Seth Anyan told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Ahiabor that, sometime in 2006, Kumi was given the building materials for the construction of a house belonging to one Mr Evans Okantah.
The prosecution said, to his surprise, Mr Okantah later found out that Kumi was using the materials given him for another persons' work.
Inspector Anyan said when Kumi was challenged he promised to refund the money, but did not honour the promise.
