All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) within the Tema region
would be provided with pre-payment meters as from July 1.
Mr Felix Fiebor, Tema Regional Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), who disclosed this at a meeting with representatives from the MDAs in Tema on Thursday, said the move was to ensure the efficient use of energy in order to avoid waste.
Mr Fiebor pointed out that the reduction in high levels of energy consumption in the country would not only help cut down expenditure on electricity by consumers but it would also save the nation from making expensive investment in generation plants.
He noted that shifting to the use of pre-payment meters would not only help them to manage energy consumption, but also to help conserve energy, and manage the usage of power in a judicious manner.
The exercise, he said, was a policy directive from the Ministry of Energy, and that all MDAs across the country would be covered by the end of November.
During open forum, he assured ECG's valued customers that their complaints would be promptly responded to.
