The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has charged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sanction party members who make contemptuous comments against the Supreme Court Judges.
Deputy Executive Director of the Foundation, Sulemana Briamah, says the party should go beyond the guidelines on public speaking, issued by its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie (Sir John), and apply punitive measures to party communicators who make contemptuous comments.
He also said although the guidelines are fair and square, he is yet to see measures put in place by the party's leadership to ensure the guidelines are adhered to.
He also expressed disappointment in the party for not publicly condemning Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie and Hopeson Adorye even after they were found guilty of contempt by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
"I think that what is important is for the party to do the kinds of things that wouldn't create the impression in the public mind that these [Owusu-Afriyie and Adorye actions] are the kinds of action that the NPP endorses", he said.
Making reference to the recent suspension of Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby by the party's National Executive Committee for supposed comments that contravened the party's constitution, he said a similar action could be made in the Sir John-Adorye situation.
