The Ghanaian midfielder signed for Real Madrid during the summer transfer window and Jose Mourinho is expected to play him as his side will face Sevilla in the next La Liga fixture.
Michael Essien was out of favours at the Premier League club, Chelsea, who now have a lot of players to fill his place in the midfield.
Since the Ghanaian midfielder has not been performing up to the mark, Jose Mourinho decided to take him on loan during this summer transfer window and the former Chelsea star is now going to play for Real Madrid at least for this season.
Michael Essien is considered to be a smart signing made by the Portuguese mentor, as Real Madrid do not have a lot of players who can play in the holding midfield position.
Lassana Diarra has left the Spanish capital and might not be joining the Spanish club ever again; therefore, Jose Mourinho made sure that there is suitable replacement for him in the Real Madrid locker-room.
Even though Essien is not going to be a first-choice player for Real Madrid, he will get more time on the pitch as compared to Chelsea, who recently won the UEFA Champions League and are willing to compete for the Premier League this season.
Michael Essien will be replacing either Sami Khedira or Xabi Alonso in the Real Madrid first-team and since Essien rarely goes out on international duty, that will add up to Jose Mourinho’s advantage as he can rest his star players who get tired while being out for their national countries.
Therefore, Essien is expected to fill in the shoes of first-choice Real Madrid players and that is the reason why he is expected to start as Real Madrid take on Sevilla in the upcoming Spanish La Liga fixture.
Real Madrid will be taking on Sevilla as soon as the Spanish La Liga kicks off again after the international fixtures and Michael Essien might be starring for Real Madrid as he reunites himself with the former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho.
While speaking about Michael Essien, a Real Madrid representative said:
“Essien is like a kid with new shoes. At Chelsea he was unfortunate with injuries but now he knows Mourinho has given him a second chance in the elite of football.”
