The Northern Regional Minister, Moses Bukari Mabengba, has admonished journalists in the region to be circumspect as the political campaigns take full flight in few weeks.
Mr. Mabengba reiterated the call on the media to consolidate the relative peace in the region before, during and after the elections.
The minister said this when he presented some items to the Muslim community and traditional leaders in Tamale.
Reacting briefly to the Northern region’s branch of NPP’s recent press conference, Mr Mabengba said government cannot meet all the needs of disaster victims to their satisfaction.
He said that his visit and distribution of relief items to the victims were clear demonstrations of government’s concern to their plight.
The NPP at a press conference recently accused top government officials in the region, for showing no concern to the plight of the recent rainstorm and flood victims.
Mr Mabengba advised journalists in the region to be wary of politicians, who are determined to level unsubstantiated allegations against their opponents, to score cheap political points as the campaign season approaches.
“We are in election year so let truth be your guide”, said the minister.
The minister donated 100 bags of rice and sugars each to the Muslim community and traditional leaders.
Mr Mabengba wished the Muslims well in this fasting period. He entreated the Muslims to pray for peace as the nation goes to polls this year.
The Northern Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Salam received the items on behalf of the Muslim community and thanked the government for that gesture.
