The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, has appealed to the people to unite behind the district assemblies and cooperate with them for smooth implementation of their development agenda.
He said they should not only follow with keen interest the activities of the assemblies but identify with the vision and efforts at bringing socio-economic progress.
Mr. Sarpong was addressing a meeting with chiefs, department heads and assembly members – the key stakeholders, at Akumadan in the Offinso North District during a familiarization visit to the area.
He said all should have a part to play to promote change and improve the quality of life.
He said they needed to push aside self-interest, work hard and pull together to find solutions to the problems that were troubling everybody.
Mr. Sarpong reminded officials of the assembly to perform their duties with passion and determination, saying, it was by so doing that they could carry the people with them.
They should avoid conflict of interest situations and make sure that things are done in a more open and transparent manner.
Mr. Samuel Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the assembly had put premium on education development and investing enormous resources into that.
He said it was not only building school classroom structures but also constructing teachers’ accommodation to attract more qualified teachers to the district.
Already it had completed 26 classroom blocks with construction works nearing on six additional ones.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi said to help improve on water and sanitation the assembly had sunk 32 boreholes.
From its own-internally generated funds, it had revamped the Akumadan irrigation project, to boost tomato production.
The DCE complained about the bad nature of feeder roads running through the area and said these should be tackled to enable the farmers to transport their produce to the marketing centres.
