Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana's first president, says he is confused at the recent ministerial reshuffle by President John Mahama.
According to him, the president’s action is disrespectful to the ministers who were getting themselves acquainted with their new portfolios.
President Mahama on Monday swapped the position of all ten Regional Ministers barely three weeks after he appointed them.
Critics, including members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) say the president’s reshuffle is an attestation that he [Mahama] is indecisive.
But government has explained that President Mahama’s decision to swap the Regional Ministers is to foster national cohesion and to bring sustainable development.
But an unimpressed Sekou Nkrumah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, said President Mahama’s impromptu reshuffle lacks logic.
He could not fathom the sudden change of mind by the president when he [Mahama] could have done that from the onset.
“Honestly the reasons for the reshuffle lacks logic. Is it that the president woke up from the wrong side of his bed and decided that he has to move this person from here to there? he asked.
Sekou Nkrumah questioned why the president did not send the Ashanti Regional Minister to the Volta Region and the Volta Regional Minister to the Ashanti Region if he indeed wanted national cohesion.
“The Ashanti and Volta regions are noted to be the traditional world banks of the NDC and NPP which has created political tension in the country. So if you [Mahama] are genuine about eradicating ethnic tension, why didn't you send an Ashanti to the Volta region and a Voltarian to the Ashanti region”.
Also, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy Director of communication, John Boadu agreed perfectly with Sekou’s assertion, adding that the president’s action gives more credence to allegation that he is indecisive.
Describing the reshuffle as a façade, he said it is to divert attention from the socio-economic crisis in the country.
John Boadu urged government official to quit defending the president’s decision because it makes the issue murkier.
“The sycophancy is too much; the explanation being given is even making the president’s case even worse”.
