After a successful take-off at Wa, this year’s Miss Ghana and National Dance Championship packages romped through Bolgatanga and Tamale last week. The Bolgatanga event was held at the Catering Rest House last Friday. At the end of an exciting contest in the beauty pageant category involving eight young ladies, 23-year-old Bernice Kumassey of Bolgatanga Polytechnic, 23-year-old Ayishetu Dauda, an old student of the University for Development Studies (UDS) and 21-year-old past student of St. Louis Senior High School, Jennifer Walenkaki emerged winners. They each took home GH¢200 along with Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) products while the rest of the contestants also received ATL products as consolation prizes. In the dance category, which was an all-male affair, Moomin Adams thrilled the crowd with his imitation of Michael Jackson’s famous Moonwalk dance to clinch the first position. Elvis Boateng placed second and Anthony Yaaro took the third position. Adams took home GH¢ 200, while Boateng and Yaaro received GH¢150 and GH¢50 respectively. The event, which kicked off late due to an earlier downpour, was well-attended and was spiced up with performances by Sherifatu Gunu and her dancers, King Ayisoba and Kawa Stone. Sherifatu received the loudest cheers from the audience and some of them took to the dance floor with her. Kawa Stone also had his fair share of cheers from the fans when he took his turn. The train stopped over at the Picorna Hotel in Tamale on Saturday for the Northern regional finals and Vincent Amenuveve reports that once again, there were thrilling performances from Sheriff Ghale, Abu ‘Policeman’ Saddick, Kawa Stone and Sherifatu Gunu and keen contests in both the beauty and dance segments. The three ladies who were chosen after the beauty pageant were Ruweida Ibrahim, 20, a first-year student of the Islamic University College, Kelly Esther Adamu, a 20-year-old health practitioner and Jennifer Tiko, 21, a first-year student of the Tamale Polytechnic. They received GH¢200, GH¢100 and GH¢50 respectively as well as souvenirs from the sponsors. In the dance competition, Jawula Seidu, a 26-year-old teacher based in Tamale was adjudged the best while Francis Adibola, 20, placed second and Fuseini Abdul Aziz, 20, took the third position. Come Saturday, it will be the turn of the Greater Accra region to play host to the train at the Exhibition Hall of the National Theatre . As usual, it promises to be a whole lot of fun with great performances expected from artistes like Sarkodie and R2Bees.
