Hiplife artiste Castro, born Theophilus Tagoe, may be missing but his songs are still alive and on the lips of many.
This fact was given credence when his song, ‘Seihor’ was adjudged the Hiplife Song of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Castro, who went missing with a female companion, Janet Bandu, while jet skiing in the waters of Ada Sunday, July 6, 2014, was an integral part of the awards night at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) yesterday.
His name was virtually mentioned several times on the night either because of his song or a song he featured on.
Organisers of the awards, Charterhouse, even did a special documentary for him. There was also a special feature – Castro: A talent now latent – dedicated to him in the official magazine for this year’s music awards.
Castro and Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan were at the Peace Holiday Resort, a beach resort in Ada, together with some friends, for recreation when he went missing.
As his family and friends still cling on to hope that the musician is still alive, the police say they are still searching for the hiplife artiste.
On the night, he beat off competition from Guru’s ‘Pooley’, VVIP’s ‘Selfie’, D-Black’s ‘Personal Person’, Samini’s ‘Iskoki’, Sarkodie’s ‘Adonai (Remix)’ to win the award.
Interestingly, Castro sang on the three - ‘Seihor’, ‘Personal Person’ and ‘Adonai (Remix)’ - of the six nominated songs for the Hiplife Song of the Year.
Castro’s award was received by rapper D-Black, who featured on the song, and his brother, who assured Ghanaians that his brother is alive and will be home soon.
Sarkodie’s hit song, ‘Adonai (Remix)’ which Castro featured on was adjudged Best Collaboration of the Year and Popular Song of the Year.
