The Ghana Police Service has said it will not object to an independent DNA test on the remains of the four Takoradi girls now said to have died.

The families of the girls have said they want an independent DNA test before they can accept the police's position that the girls are dead.

The DNA test conducted on the four human remains discovered around a house once occupied by the suspected kidnapper has proven that the girls were indeed dead, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh,  announced at a press briefing in Accra on Monday night.

Following that, apart from one family that has said they have no qualms with the findings, three families of the victims have rejected the outcome and called for an independent probe.

In an interview with Starr FM on Wednesday, the Director-General of Police Public Affairs, ACP Mr. David Eklu said the concerns of the families will be addressed.

He said when the acting IGP met the families in Takoradi last month, he gave the assurance that would be done should the families have issues with the first test.

“They can conduct their independent investigation to either confirm or come out with some finding so with that one we do not have any problem with it. We are not going to make any public announcement, we will agree with the families because these are very emotional or touchy issues which we will have to handle with care so my advice is that let us be measured in the way we speak about these things because we still have work to do to ensure that we get justice for prosecution.”
