The President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, has warned lackadaisical ministers and appointees in his government to brace themselves for massive changes in his team next year as he seeks to retain power.
President Mills in January reshuffled his ministers replacing then Attorney General and Justice Minister Betty Mould-Iddrisu with Martin Amidu after she was moved to the Education Ministry.
Alex Tettey-Enyo, then Education Minister was dropped from Mills’ government for perceived poor handling of the strikes by the University Teachers Association of Ghana and Polytechnic teachers.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Accra-based radio station Radio Gold on Friday, President Mills said the reshuffle is just to get a winning team for 2012.
He debunked assertions that ministers and appointees are removed from office because people perceive them to be incompetent.
According to him, his government would not tolerate any apathetic attitude from any minister or appointee and would crack the whip to ensure that the NDC gets the nod for another four-year term.
“More people will be removed in 2012 for a better team. ..we will do it to strengthen the team,” President Mills said.
