There will be further lay-offs at telecommunications company Vodafone as it plans to downsize its operations.
More than a thousand workers have been retrenched since Vodafone took over the operations of Ghana Telecom.
The exercise then, saw a lot of acrimony between the workers’ union and management over the way the process was managed.
The new Chief Executive Kyle Whitehill tells Joy Business further restructuring is necessary to ensure that the company is able to deliver prudent returns.
He says Vodafone is yet to realize any profits even though it has invested a substantial capital into the business.
“When we bought this company 18 months ago the company was losing tremendous amount of money. The ambition that Vodafone had for this organisation was this will become a successful business in Ghana for the next 300 years.” "It was unsustainable the position we are in."
He says the company has had to look at the structure of the company and the right number of people to deliver the service needed.
He notes that a lot more dramatic changes will have to be made to ensure that the company is on the right track.
Mr. Whitehill however adds that the company will continue to engage new hands even as others are laid off.
