An 11 year-old boy is receiving treatment for multiple burns he sustained after his mother assaulted him with a hot electric iron.
The mother, a 28-year-old petty trader is in the grips of the police for her actions.
According to Emmanuel Edwin Adogo, Assemblyman for Lower New Takoradi, the area where the incident happened, 11-year-old Bernard Asafua confessed to stealing GHc5 belonging to his classmate after denying initially.
The Assemblyman explained that the boy's initial denial angered his mother who inflicted the boy with a hot iron after subjecting him to severe beatings.
The grandmother of boy rushed to his rescue after she heard him screaming as a resulted of the beatings and burns.
The boy was quickly rushed to the New Takoradi Health Centre for first aid.
But he was later transferred to the Afua Nkwanta Regional Hospital due to the severity of his burns.
The boy's mother has expressed regret for her actions.
