MTN Ghana has launched a new fibre broadband service for homes, a move the company says will deliver reliable, high-speed internet to households and help subscribers turn their homes into business hubs.

The service, branded as Smart Home, is designed to support Ghana’s growing digital economy by giving families, students, remote workers and entrepreneurs access to fast and stable connectivity.

The announcement was made by MTN’s Chief Home Officer, Richard Acheampong, during the company’s Bright Conversations forum held at MTN House in Accra.

Bringing Fast, Reliable Internet to the Home

According to Mr. Acheampong, the introduction of fibre broadband for homes is part of MTN’s broader commitment to bridge the digital divide and ensure Ghanaians have access to world-class internet.

“As part of our commitment to providing reliable and fast internet connectivity across the country, we have introduced fibre broadband connectivity targeting homes,” he said.

“This service gives subscribers the freedom to turn their homes into business annexes. Whether you are running an online store, attending virtual classes, working remotely, or streaming content, Smart Home is built to keep you connected without interruptions."

He explained that the service is tailor-made to meet the demands of modern households where multiple devices are connected at the same time, from smart TVs and laptops to security cameras and gaming consoles.

Mr. Acheampong noted that Smart Home goes beyond entertainment.

It is positioned to improve productivity and support small businesses operating from home.

“This service is tailor-made to support the country’s growing digital economy and improve productivity,” he said.

“We know that many Ghanaians are now working from home, learning from home, and even running full businesses from home. They need internet that is fast, affordable and dependable. That is exactly what Smart Home delivers," he added.

“With the rise of e-commerce, content creation, fintech, and online education in Ghana, the new fibre service will enable more people to participate in the digital economy without leaving their homes."

Mr Acheampong said the fibre broadband package will come with several benefits, including ultra-fast speeds for seamless streaming, gaming and video conferencing; unlimited data options to support heavy usage; low latency for smooth online experiences; support for multiple devices connected simultaneously; and dedicated customer support for home users.

He added that installation will be professional and hassle-free, with flexible payment plans to make the service accessible to more households across the country.

Expansion Plans

 Mr. Acheampong disclosed that the rollout will begin in key urban centres in Accra and Kumasi, with plans to expand to other regions in phases.

“Our goal is to make Smart Home available to as many Ghanaians as possible,” he said. “We are investing heavily in our fibre infrastructure to ensure coverage keeps expanding and that every home that wants to be connected can be connected. “

He urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the service to improve their digital experience at home. The Bright Conversations forum is part of MTN’s platform to engage customers and stakeholders on new products and innovations.
