Aspiring National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Hudu Yahya says while he is in the contest to win, he would gladly support the party in any capacity if he loses the election.
"I am in this to win, but it is left to God to decide," he stated in an interview with Joy News' Evans Mensah, Wednesday.
Alhaji Hudu Yahya is contesting the incumbent chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, current NADMO boss Kofi Portuphy and former Trade Minister Dan Abodakpi for the highest position in the governing party.
At a ceremony to launch his campaign, the incumbent chairman took a swipe at some of his contenders for describing him as a weak and soft leader.
He specifically mentioned Alhaji Hudu Yahya whose overbearing leadership style he claimed led to the NDC losing power in the 2000 election.
But Alhaji Hudu Yahya would not react to the claims by the incumbent chair, except to say that the allegations by Dr Adjei are only his opinions.
He said he is in the race to make the "NDC stronger" and to "build NDC for generations ahead of us."
Strikingly different from the posturing of many politicians, Alhaji Yayha said he would not say he is the best candidate for the job.
"My winning is not the most important; it is the party's growth that is," he stated, adding my chairmanship bid is not an "all-die-be-die affair."
The NDC will be organising its national delegates congress later in October to elect new national executives.
