The 5th edition of the International Youth Fellowship World Camp has opened in Tema amidst wonderful and amazing performances from youth drawn from various parts of the world.
The Monday’s opening ceremony was witnessed by a high government entourage led by First Lady, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills. Other members of the entourage included the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Djangmah Vanderpuye as well as representatives from the Education and Women and Children Affairs Ministries.
The First Lady formally opened the 5-day camp with a call on the youth to refrain from acts that would destablise the peaceful atmosphere the country currently enjoyed.
The theme for this year’s IYF World Camp meeting is “Peace in Ghana” which is committed to ensuring the December polls remained peaceful devoid of violence.
According to Naadu Mills, the youth must complement the efforts of government in preserving the peace, democracy and harmony in the country.
The founder of IYF, Rev Ock Soo Park, admonished the youth to develop the spirit of humility that would enable them to excel in everything they do. He stated that the spirit of pride always retarded progress.
Monday’s opening ceremony would not have been complete without the performance of acclaimed Gracias Youth Choir, who have been globetrotting delivering stunning tunes in various languages.
The choir, made predominantly of South Koreans treated patrons to exciting Twi classical gospel tunes leaving patrons and the over 2,000 youth gathered at the Good News Mission Headquarters spell bound.
For the Gracias Choir, Monday’s stunning performance was a dress rehearsal for Wednesday main concert at the Accra International Conference Center.
The IYF is an NGO organization based on the foundation of Christian values; structured to promote good values and raise the standards of the youth towards future development and success.
This year’s event brought together over 2,000 youths drawn from 18 IYF membership countries.
