The People’s National Convention is asking government to build a monument in honour of the late President Dr Hilla Limann.
General Secretary of the party Bernard Mornah told Joy News it is regrettable that nothing of monumental significance has been named after the leader, however short his reign was.
Dr Hilla Limann won political power in 1979 under the ticket of the People’s National Convention but his reign was truncated in 1981 by the Rawlings led People’s National Defence Council (PNDC).
Despite his short stay in government, Mr Monah believes the past leader needs to be recognized.
He wondered why JB, Danquah, Obetsebi Lamptey, and Emmanuel Kotoka all have monuments named after them in the country, and argued that having occupied the seat of government, Dr Limann should be recognised.
Mr Mornah said failure to name any monument after the late leader is a “blot” on the country’s political history.
Asked what monument he wanted Dr Limann to be named after, the general secretary said that should be the decision of the government.
