Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has insisted that no one can force her husband, former president Jerry John Rawlings from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite recent calls for his removal.
Mrs. Rawlings, who is also the flagbearer of National Democratic Party in an exclusive interview with Adom News described her husband, founder of the party as “an astute politician who knows what he is doing” and he would therefore not be moved by the calls.
The leader of the 31st December Women’s Movement was responding to suggestions that her husband could face expulsion from the party over accusations of breach of the party’s constitution after declaring support for his wife and the NDP.
She claimed President Rawlings supported the NDP because the NDC had abandoned the principles upon which the NDC was founded, forcing him to support the NDP which he believed was determined to restore the principles of probity, accountability and social justice.
Commenting on the threat by the editor of Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu to expose the former president over an issue which Bature claimed could have landed Rawlings in jail, Mrs. Rawlings dared him (Bature) to come out with the ‘so called’ information on or her husband.
She insisted that she had only met Alhaji Bature about three times in her life and will not waste her time on such allegations.
Mrs Rawlings called on all Ghanaians seeking the interest of the nation to join her party, the NDP which believes in entrepreneurial empowerment of the Ghanaian to create more employment, effective decentralization to catapult national development.
She promised good leadership for the NDP as they go into the general elections.
