The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. has stated that in his view, Nana Akufo-Addo’s All-die-be-die comment does not amount to promoting violence as he was merely encouraging his supporters to “resist intimidation [and] resist violence”, insisting that the tag of violence by his critics does not wash. Mr. Baako who made this remark on Joy FM's current affairs programme, News File on Saturday, described himself as an associate of Nana Addo and said the myriad of accusations from the ruling National Democratic Congress in the wake of Nana Addo’s, now famous All-die-be-die comment are unfounded. “Obviously if you know Akufo-Addo’s political track record and his associates over the years - and I have been a political associate of his since the '70s in our battle against [former Ghanaian Head of State, General Kutu] Acheampong. So I have known him, I worked with him as part of the Alliance for Change - he is a nationalist of the highest order. We disagree on ideological perspective to this country’s history… but when it comes to national interest; when it comes to having relations across the ethnic divide, I am not sure there is anybody who can beat him to it,” he asserted. Nana Akufo-Addo has been urging party supporters to resist any attempts by members of the NDC to intimidate them in the 2012 general elections. According to Nana Addo, the NPP was founded and populated by courageous and bold people who are ready to die for the party if need be to wrestle political power in 2012. But as far as Mr. Baako is concerned, Nana Addo’s comments have been lifted into the realms of political propaganda and that “people are seeking to make propaganda capital out of what had happened in Koforidua.” Touching on Nana Addo’s comments on Akans being regarded as cowards, Mr. Baako said the comments were directed at a community of people he was talking to at the time and should not be blown out of proportion. He quizzed whether then candidate Mills was appealing to tribal sentiments when he accused former President John Kufour of superintending the closure of cold stores in the Central Region whiles building new ones in the Ashanti Region to the detriment of the Central Region which has a lot of fisher folks. He also referred to comments made by then candidate Mills prior to the 2008 elections when he met supporters in the Central Region amidst chants of adze wo fie a oye to wit, it serves better purposes to have one's own kin in charge of affairs, asking whether it was an appeal to the people’s ethnic sentiments. He served notice that he will be publishing comments by the NDC officials while in opposition but who are now criticizing Nana Addo for preaching war.
